Regrettably this is in part due to the fact that many people referred to an Ophthalmologist do not have sick eyes and are there to be screened for eye disease. Patients with diabetes as you know require a screening visit for macula oedema every 12 months, yet only a low percentage of these people will develop diabetic eye disease.

These patients with healthy eyes take up valuable specialist appointments that should be available for people who have a problem. By sending your diabetes patients and others with chronic disease issues to us for their eye examinations, you will not only be freeing up specialist appointments for those who need them.  You will also decrease your patient’s waiting times and out of pocket expenses.

Best of all, if a problem is identified then our Optometrists will refer the patient to an Ophthalmologist that has a subspecialty that will best aid the outcome for your patient.
